Re: Fort Myers to Lake Okeechobee

Hi Lincoln,

A bunch of us JetSkiers are planning a get together at Lake Okeechobee.
A group will depart Ft. Myers and arrive at Lake from the West. Another group will travel from Stuart to the Lake and meet there also.

I tried to upload some pictures, but there is a 97K throttle on this site. Send me your direct email and I can show you shots from last weekend when I ran the Kissimee River at the Lake

He thought you were talking about driving. Man that would be a long way on a Jetski.

Look here for a few pics of our run across the "Okee" waterway from Stuart to Sanibel & back in '06.

Re: Fort Myers to Lake Okeechobee

We did the trip a couple of times on a sailboat that drafts 5' and we were around 14 hours from moore haven to saint james city(just past the mouth of the caloosahatchie. We traveled @ 6-7 knts for the most part. there is a public dock in moore haven and one in labell near downtown that make for interesting stops. I know people who have made the whole run (indiantown to alva) in one day.
All that said, In my opinion, alva to pine island sound is the most interesting part of the trip, and i'd look @ circumnavigating pine island as a great way to spend a day and see some amazing sites and wildlife. Jamey

Anyone ever go from one coast to the other? Ive heard it can be done, but wasnt sure.

(eta) Okeechobee Waterway - 152 mi. Sounds like a lot of time and a ton of fuel!

Re: Fort Myers to Lake Okeechobee

i've been a few times and some of the worst chop I've ever seen was on the lake. I still think that labelle to Pine island sound, or st. luice locks to indian river are the redeeming qualities of any venture across the state.
More bugs in clewiston than all the eveglades, thought we were going to die and we were traveling appox. 16-20 knts.
