Thumbs up Peanut Island, Lake Worth Inlet

I havent seen a thread for this spot but it has been consistent for many years. The weekends fill up a narrow channel between the island and the sandbar to the northwest part of the island. At low tide the bar is exposed. It gets pretty happening and the fun lasts til about 2 hours before sundown as everyone then disbands for the trip home if not staying overnite .
The island allows for overnite camping as well and many people take advantage of the public facilities available including electric, water, showers and yes bathrooms!! Access the island at the public dock on either east or west side. no overnite dockage is allowed so, for campers unless you have reserved and paid for a site, a swim in from an anchoring is necessary.
For the landlubbers a taxi is available from either Sailfish Marina of Singer Island or from the Riviera Beach Marina dont know the rates bu it is worth it as people wanting to join the party can traverse the narrow channel and get to the sandbar during a med/high tide or lower.
Its a great spot for families also as there is a museum highlighting local history and a tour of the old C.G. station and the renovated Kennedy bunker. There is also a snorkeling lagoon for kids with a lifeguard!!
CHECK IT OUT!!

Re: Peanut Island, Lake Worth Inlet

I have several friends, including my neighbor, who go up there fairly often. Ive heard it is really good but I cant tow my little boat and never felt like making the run for a day.

Might have to change that this summer...

So it's fine to stay overnight (on the boat), you just can't use the land facilities, correct? I wouldnt mind hitting Waterway Cafe the same weekend, I used to work on PGA and would head there for some blackened fish and rice and beans with the mango salsa. Mmmmmm!

Re: Peanut Island, Lake Worth Inlet

I tried to include the info, it is below.

Camping On Peanut Is
PEANUT ISLAND'S EAST SIDE: The main facilities are located on Peanut Island’s east side. This is just across the channel from
Sailfish Marina. The island’s dock, restrooms, public phone, drinking fountains, picnic area and developed campground are all located here. There are sandbars in the area so be careful when crossing from the channel over to the dock.
All of the dock spaces are free and open for day use by the public. They’re “first come, first serve.” Overnight the dock can only be used by people using the paid campsites. Note that the current is especially strong at the dock. It’s tough to tie-up on an incoming or outgoing tide! There is an anchorage just south of the docks. Many times it is easier just to anchor and swim in than to use the dock. The paid campsites are wonderful (they’re available through the county.) There is some good snorkeling in the swimming area and around the dock.
NORTHERN SANDBAR: The area north of Peanut Island and South of the Blue Heron Bridge is very shallow. It's a popular sandbar during low tide.
Local knowledge: The sandbar is huge. You can walk from Peanut Island north to within a few hundred feet of the Blue Heron Bridge. The sandbar is made up of clean white sand. There is a large submerged dingy that can be seen at lowest tide. I have found conchs while snorkeling here. Watch the current… people have drowned here after getting caught in it. Obviously, watch for shallow water on approach.

NORTH AND WEST SIDES: Many boaters will beach here or anchor just off shore. Watch for shallow water when approaching! The west side affords good views of the Riviera Beach Marina, Palm Beach Princess gambling cruise ship, Cracker Boy “Do It Yourself” Boat Works and the Port Of Palm Beach. There’s plenty of interesting action to watch. There are restrooms and outside showers located on the west side. Boaters can use Peanut Island's west side dock.

Tons more info on Palm Beach counties website google it!!!!!!!!
