Boat survey help!

Well, yesterday I handed over my deposit check for the 31 Tiara, and now I need to have the out of water survey before anythings. So far I found one guy and was quoted $15/ft for the survey and $7/ft to haul the bout out of the water.

If anyone has someone they can recommend (or at least a better price for the marina charge) near LHP/Pompano please let me know.

If all goes well I should take have her signed over before next weekend!

I hope that info is still correct, I can't find his business card.
Does that $7 figure include racking/blocking and the round trip in/out?
don't know anybody that used them, but compare: http://www.playboymarine.com/rpt_haulout.php

Hidden Harbor in Pompano is OK, the owner is a bit cranky, but they'lll do it. You can also try Merritt Boatworks, but they are kinda pricey.

Re: Boat survey help!

Im having Ed Cozzi do the survey and highly recommend him. We came across a bad fuel pump and a few other issues and he was able to get it taken care of in the middle of the survey.

Im having the boat hauled at Hideaway Marina - they are the only place that doesnt charge for the haul if you have more work done there (Im having bottom paint redone).

So far so the rest has gone really well, I only have the exterior of the hull to be inspected and the survey is finished. Bottom paint and a couple minor fixes, paperwork, and hopefully she's in the water by the end of the week.

Re: Boat survey help!

Ed is my good friend. Tell him Harry the Haitian said he should do it for you for half the price.

Sincerely, he's the best. He has done it many times for me. He used to be my instructor at the Power Squadron.

Let me suggest something. Be absolutely sure that as long as you are concerned, this is the boat and everything looks OK for you. The hauling will not reimburse you if Ed found the boat a lemon. And trust me, Ed is tough. He is make a thourough survey and check everything.

Good luck!

Re: Boat survey help!

Thanks for the info Harry. Ed actually finished the survey yesterday and everything checked out nicely. I should have ownership by Thursday evening, but am not sure how quickly the marina will finish the bottom paint and a few other "tune ups" I'm having done while out of the water.

My fingers are crossed to have her in the water this weekend, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

Re: Boat survey help!

Ok, ok! I just started a new thread in the SE FL forum with a couple pics. I'll get more up when I get them, hopefully at the end of the week.
