Thumbs up 2007 Winterfest Boat Parade

Friday, November 03, 2006 | 07:17 AM
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 16th, 2006
Theme: "BROADWAY ON THE WATERWAY" Celebrating 35 Years of Holiday Magic

Seminole Hard Rock Boat Parade is South Florida's, and particularly Fort Lauderdale's, most unique and special event. This holiday festival features a variety of quality events most of which are scheduled during the month of December. A lighted Boat Parade and Shoreline Decorating along the Intracoastal Waterway, a
Black Tie Ball, Golf/Tennis Tournament and VIP/Celebrity Reception, make up the major Winterfest Components.

Re: 2007 Winterfest Boat Parade

Let's talk about where to raft up. I always have at least 4 boats in my group rafted up for the parade. We raft up in the area shown below.

Haha...not hardly, I'm just amazed that I can zoom in on my house and see my boat, Not in real time I know. Though that would be awsome.

I think the Google earth thing is cool as hell, you can even zoom in to Cube, Jamaica and the Virgin Islands or any populated area for that matter.

Re: 2007 Winterfest Boat Parade

How come everyone on this forum is up north, where are the Miami people?

Anyway, whats the deal with this parade? It's my first year having a boat for it and I am wondering if I should drag it up for the parade.

Re: 2007 Winterfest Boat Parade

Svence,
If it's your first time, you will like the parade for sure. After a few of them, you start seeing the same boats and the same designs, the show looses its appeal. It has also become a little too comercialized. However, the fun is to be at night with a nice group and have a great time. I go every year and I always have a good time.
Don't miss it.

If you don't hear a lot from the Miami area, talk to your friends from Miami-Dade about Raft-up.com. In fact, many of us from "North" do go a lot to the Miami area. I sincerely believe there is much more to see and do in the Miami Dade area. That's why I boat a lot around Haulover, Bayside and No Name Harbour.
So, talk to us from "North"!

Exclamation Re: 2007 Winterfest Boat Parade

I do not know if anyone is interested but I belong to the Lauderdale Small Boat Club and we volunteer every year for the Winterfest Boat Parade. We are the control boats for the event which means that we get the best seating around. Our boats line the waterway so that the other boaters have to park behind us so they do not get in the way of the parade. There is a Captains meeting on December 6. You get a lot of sponsor stuff and $30 worth of gas after the parade and a free party with food and drinks. If anyone in interested please email me soon.

The parade is a great time, and will blow you away if you have never seen it. Although it has a commercial background, it is a great time and a nice holiday tradition. I will either anchor by the yacht club, or within the triangle over there. You won't have much luck with the VHF that night as someone is requesting a radio check on 16 every 10 seconds.

Thumbs up Re: 2007 Winterfest Boat Parade

Great news. I had the pleasure of meeting Kathy Keleher last night who is the Marketing Director of The Winterfest Boat Parade. For the first time, I will be participating in the parade this year not as a spectator, but as a participant. The Winterfest Boat Parade is televised in 35 markets during 3 airings throughout the country, and the Raft-Up.com logo will be prominently displayed- Are you seeing what I am seeing??? What a great opportunity to support a local event, and get great exposure for our little island on the internet. If you have never participated in the parade, this is your chance. I've attached 2 forms which you can download:
  1. Control boat entry form: Best seat in the house. Your boat will be on the front lines of the parade route with a rotating amber colored light. All that they ask is that you are available by VHF or cel phone for communication purposes.
  2. Participant entry form: Never done this before, but I'm looking forward to it. The entry fee for a personal boat is very low, and gets you in to a pre-party Captain's meeting at The Seminole Hard Rock.
I want to thank Kathy for her support of Raft-Up.com, and encourage you to help out as a control boat or a participant.

Regards,

Admin
