| Pompano Beach Boat Parade The Pompano Beach Holiday Boat Parade sets sail at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17. At 44 years old, the event is known as the granddaddy of South Florida’s holiday processions. Some 80 boats are expected to participate in the 2006 parade, organized by the Greater Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce. The procession will begin in Lake Santa Barbara and head north to the Hillsboro Boulevard Bridge. Entry is free but pre-registration is required. A captain’s meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14 at Pompano Beach Historical Society, 217 NE Fourth Ave.
This year’s theme is “Celebrating 50 Years of the Pompano Beach Coast Guard Auxiliary.” Capt. James Watson, U.S. Coast Guard District 7 chief of staff, will be the grand marshal. Watson, who is stationed in Miami, will be on the lead party boat, the Catalina. Tickets to join him aboard the 130-foot yacht are $100 if purchased before Dec. 1 and $125 after that date.
