Lightbulb June 15th. Lake Sylvia/Sylvan, Harbor Beach - Be there or be Square!

OKay Raft-Up mavens, "Asureyes" and "Never Satisfied" are going back eto Lake Sylvia on Sunday the 15th. of June. We are planning to have anchors down at Noon. Margaritas served at 12:05PM.

Some raft up tips for this anchorage.

The bottom is a sandy mud and holding is good but not great. Larger boats over 32 feet should set anchors at least every other boat using at least 100 feet of scope payed out as the Helmsman backsdown to the raft. Vessels under 32 feet can set anchors every third boat, but scope on the anchor can be reduced to 75' for these boats.

Tip, Skippers should bring their bow into the wind or current, which ever is affecting the raft the most, and pass the raft by 2.5 to 3 boat lengths A crew member shou;ld drop the anchor to the bottom and feed out line to the anchor as the Helmsman backs down. After a boat length crew should snub the anchor line on a cleat untill the anchor begins to bite and and then add line to the scope until the two ships are now side by side. Complete the tie off and then haul in the anchor hand overhand to finish settting the anchor.

Question Re: June 15th. Lake Sylvia, Hillsboro Inlet

Now TWO raft-ups for the 15th... WOW!

I'm not that familiar with the area, while I know where Lake Sylvia is, and have a vague idea of where Hillsboro is -- they're really pretty far apart, aren't they?

Like... getting from one to the other might take hours?
(Just in case one might want to visit BOTH raft-ups? )

Talking Re: June 15th. Lake Sylvia/Sylvan, Harbor Beach - Be there or be Square!

Good Morning all. We will be at Lake Sylvia at noon. Weather forecast calls for 40% chance of rain, that means 60% chance of no rain so we are RAFTING! In case of rain we will watch Disney movies below decks, but the margaritas will flow.

Lake Sylvia is located immediately south of Bahia Mar Yacht basin in a esturary that is swept clean by tides and surrounded by million dollar homes. It remains one of the few places in Ft. Lauderdale you can tow skiiers and wake boards. This is a top raft location when a beach isn't necessary.

Look for "Never Satisfied and/or Asureyez"

Somebody bring the music.

Chad

Somebody please send me my Burgee!

Thumbs up TODAY! June 15th. Lake Sylvia...

Yup... weather same as yesterday, beautiful all day until around 4-ish when possible storms move through. (usually no more than an hour)

That will be enough time to get back up ICW to LaPlaya for evening activities.

Tight Squeeze getting ready to depart... see'ya there

Raft Report:

We had a great day ... Never Satsified got first hook down quickly foillowed you Asureyes (yours truly). The winds were mild, the rain clouds non existant (I told you guys there would be no rain!)

TThe day had five in the raft including "Tight Squeeze, Never Satsifiled, Asureyez, Tazer, and the Tight Squeeze. The crew of Tight Squeeze made constant runs to find chicas and Asureyes made constant flow of Margaritas possible.

The rest just had fun.

Next week ... Where?

Thumbs up Great Day For All

It was a beautiful day... not too crowded -- so we had the pleasurable opportunity to spend some time getting acquainted with everyone!

Chad makes some great Margaritas ... everyone had a great time!

The ultimate "Pimp my boat" accessory...

That must be why this guy is smiling...

... or maybe not!

Re: June 15th. Lake Sylvia/Sylvan, Harbor Beach - Be there or be Square!

We have to agree, Sunday was great!! We went snorkeling off the Pompano Balls, blue water, great visibility (over 50'), and calm seas.

Afterwords, we went a couple miles North of Hillsboro Inlet, where all the private residences are located and anchored just offshore of the swim buoys. There is a sandbar there that is 2 -4 feet deep depending on the tide. The sandy bottom is very soft with no rocks - easy on the feet. Water was crystal clear. From there, we swam to the beach and let the kids go shelling. We had the beach to ourselves

Great Father's Day
