OKay Raft-Up mavens, "Asureyes" and "Never Satisfied" are going back eto Lake Sylvia on Sunday the 15th. of June. We are planning to have anchors down at Noon. Margaritas served at 12:05PM.
Some raft up tips for this anchorage.
The bottom is a sandy mud and holding is good but not great. Larger boats over 32 feet should set anchors at least every other boat using at least 100 feet of scope payed out as the Helmsman backsdown to the raft. Vessels under 32 feet can set anchors every third boat, but scope on the anchor can be reduced to 75' for these boats.
Tip, Skippers should bring their bow into the wind or current, which ever is affecting the raft the most, and pass the raft by 2.5 to 3 boat lengths A crew member shou;ld drop the anchor to the bottom and feed out line to the anchor as the Helmsman backs down. After a boat length crew should snub the anchor line on a cleat untill the anchor begins to bite and and then add line to the scope until the two ships are now side by side. Complete the tie off and then haul in the anchor hand overhand to finish settting the anchor.
