stolen boat

I'm posting this on every forum I know in case somebody get accross my boat on the water and I'm not the one driving...

The boat is a Wellcraft Scarab Sport 30 1981, totally re-fited on 2007, with twin E-tecs 2006 250HP.
I had the boat on a storage facility with video security, fence, chain on the tires of the trailer and lock on the tongue of the trailer... nothing stop them...
they went in tailgating somebody, and waited inside until after closing hour (8 PM)
Cut the chain, locks, the fence and that's it... 8:09 were crossing the gate going out.
I can't even find the words to express the pain and how much it hurts to go for the boat with all the family on the truck ready for a family day and find your boat parking spot empty.
We got this hull totally stripped out last year and worked in it endless hours to have it ready for Bimini on may....well it's not going to happen..
I'll appreciate if you can keep an eye for me out there...
TIA!!!

Re: stolen boat

hey Hows It Goin Man I Am Really Sorry To Hear About Your Boat, That Really Sucks. Anyway I Will Be On The Look Out For Sure. I Will Let Some Of My Buddies Know About It In Case They See The Boat Some Where, But Never The Less You May End Up Finding The Boat But It Might Be Stripped. I Would Start Looking Around In The Area Where It Got Stolen And Then Start Looking In Miami. But Anyway I Will Definately Be On The Look Out For You, I Know How You Must Feel.

Re: stolen boat

Man, sorry to read what happened . Stuff like this literally makes me sick to my stomach and pisses me off. Hope you were fully covered. One thing that I'd be REAL interested in would be who the douche bag that let him tailgate in was. It wouldn't have taken too much sense to at least make it real obvious to the thieves that they were noticed, if not stop the vehicle in its tracks the second it was apparent that they were tailgating me through the security gate and ask them what the Hell they thought they were doing. And if too intimidated, how about notifying the security people (or desk jockey) at the rental office that something might be amiss?

I never had a boat stolen, but I did have a M/C stolen and it was crushing until the coverage kicked-in, the bike was recovered (wrecked, of course), and I was able to rebuild it and get back on the road. It really sucks that you work hard for a "toy" only to have some dirt-bag lift it.

Two of the biggest problems in our society is that our elected officials waste so much time on the special interest issues (abortion, same sex marriage, etc.) instead of those that actually do directly impact each of us (such as crime). And that we waste 60% of our prison space on non-violent and non-larcenous crime instead of giving long long sentences to those that find it OK to steal and otherwise negatively impact our lives, but don't due to "lack of sufficient prison space".

Anyway, again sorry to hear about this. Hope you find your boat and really hope the thieves get caught. I'll be sure to keep an eye out while down that way in a few weeks.

Anything real specific to your particular boat? Like a "3 inch scuff on the port side bow" or "white paint on the starboard rear rub-rail"? Something that a thief wouldn't think to alter?

Re: stolen boat

I fell your pain. I had my house broken into years ago and the violated feeling you get from being a victiim is terrible.

I will keep my eyes open for the boat.

Keep your chin high and try to have a Happy Easter despite the bad karma and be thankful that you and your family are safe.

Re: stolen boat

I feel for you brother. I was reading on another site where the poor guy had just purchased the boat and it was stolen the next day.

I was returning my boat to the storage lot on a Navy base back in late February. There was abig boat parked in my space and a truck parked in front. I walked and yelled for someone, but no one answered. I went up to the office to see why was someone parked in my space. One of the guys from the office went down and the guy was there. He told him he had to moved. He recognized the boat as belonging in the other lot they have there. I went back down and the guy had pulled the boat forward. I was talking to the guy and he said he bought the boat from someone on Craigslist. He needed to change a flat tire, but the other yard is dirt and it was muddy and he couldn't jack it up there, so he pulled to the other lot which is concrete. When the guy pulled in there he tried to turn a 3 axle trailer in a tight turn and busted off a chrome wheel and destroyed the hub. He had run to the marine store and bought a new hub and wheel and put on the trailer.

Anyway he unhooked from the trailer and said he was going to the store. I was parking my boat when the office manager came down wanting to know where the guy went. Turned out he was trying to steal the boat. They had called the owner, who it turns out had died the previous month and everything was tied up in probate court. They said they didn't sell the boat.

They called the cops and they never did find the guy and he naver came back. Thing is he had the combination to both gates.

So the theives are even bold enough to get onto a Navy base and try to steal a boat. This guy was just too stupid for once.

Re: stolen boat

Man that sucks, I feel for you. I'll let our Marine Unit know in the town I work in, but it would be helpful if there was something that stands out about it. I do know after big storms way down south boats are as hot as a stolen car. Keep us posted.

Re: stolen boat

What area was the boat stolen from ?
I had the same happen almost 10 years ago from my driveway NE Ft Lauderdale (302 Scarab Sport).
You need to check all area boat ramps for the trailer possibly abandoned in case the boat was launched and used to smuggle.
Mine was found (boat no trailer) about 3 day's later in the mangroves south of sunny isles marina. Everything intact except for some electronics that were easy to remove. But a mess and smell in the cuddy that marine patrol said was from packages of cocaine being loaded into it and a 12in scratch on starboard side from the boat being alongside a freighter or such. Thankfully after a thorough checking, cleaning, TLC and gelcoat repair she was still good as new.
Near as we could figure the boat was launched (I think at Haulover Ramp) used to pick-up the payload offshore to bring inshore and trailer was sold or being used elsewhere. I was a raging lunatic for months and still to this day when I'm at a boat ramp I look for my old trailer.
So I've been there and feel for you and hope it works out. I also think "SeaKey" is a worthwhile investment for many reasons..........

Re: stolen boat

As soon as I get more courage to go back to the boat I will take more pictures...
THEY STOLE EVERYTHING...

trailer lights,
trailer poles,
console
T-top
electronics
controls
cables
engines
water pumps
oil tanks
grill
wakeboard
fire extinguisher and its brackets,

EVERY TING!!! doors, lids, speakers, including stuff that would only fit an old scarab....the only thing they left me was the hull, engine bracket, and most of the trailer..
