Re: potomac river boating

I think my reply disappeared when the site changed hands.

I'm new to the Northern VA area as well. We got here at the tail end of last season, so we went out a few times.

The place is see the most boats congegrating is around both Tim's Rivershore restraunts. We go to the Fairview beach one mostly because the original Tim's is very close to where we put in at Leesyvania SP.

I'm interested in find the out of the way bays and sand bars as well. I'm not sure if people overnight on te river, If so does anyone know of a good spot?

Some places I see look like you could even pull off and get out on the shore for bbq or camping, not sure if that's cool or not though.

Re: potomac river boating

I don't think I'm seeing all the posts for some reason. I get the e-mail notification but when I click the link I don't see the posts.

Do you guys see all the posts?

Anyway, I'll give the site another shot, I didn't hate it or anything.

For now It's just me and the wifey looking for the fun spots on the river. I dig the map, I must have missed it before.

There are some decent places near Tims1. Try the front section of Mattowoman creek, the back was taken over by underwater vegetation it used to be sweet. Someplace else local would be Belmontbay real close to Masonneck park, there just not real happy with people on their nice beach. If you feel like a 30min. run south there is goosebay/port tobacco.

Re: potomac river boating

I'll have to get out my charts and take a look. Thanks for the info. I really want to find a sandy spot to get out the bbq. Who doesn't like people on the beach, and why, isn't it a park.

Re: potomac river boating

Yes, it's a park. The problem has been people leaving trash, beer cans and disposible grills at the waterline. We usually anchor about 200-250' off the beach in about chest deep water and grill, while we air up our toys. The biggest problem with this for some people is there to damned shy to hook-up with others who have boat grills! The more the merrier!

Question Re: potomac river boating

Is anyone else from Leesylvania park ready to dewinterize there boats, but wondering when it will be safe for the year? I new i should have opted for the engine heater! The boat shows have come and gone and the itch is just as bad as ever. To try to get another reason to spend alittle more time on the water I even got a sport fishing liscense and set up rods and reels. There is only a second small question in my mind: fishing from a cruiser "In no way shape or form am I fisherman". 3 boats in 15 years and never took it serious enough to learn how to enjoy it or maybe catch something other than crabs. Any advice or suggestions on the fishing? The cruising and resteraunts I pretty much have handle on.

Leesylvania State Park

I put in a t Leesylvania. It's a nice park even though you have to pay out the nose to get in and launch. But I feel safe leaving my stuff there, they have cops there all the time. Never been harrassed..knock knock.

I rode the bike to Tim's last weekend. Seems like things are picking up. Still not many people or boats out. just a couple of big cruisers, I was the only bike there.

Next week is supposed to get up to 70 for a couple of days. I bet we have two more weekends of rainy-nasty and then it'll be time to fire it up!
