Hurricane Season

I know it sucks to think about it, but June 1 is not far away. Anyone have any interesting hurricane/ boating stories?

Re: Hurricane Season

I always tie my boat down in my yard. I have three, 5' long mobile home steel tiedown rods cemented in my yard and I use a 5,000lb come-along (sp?) on each corner to tie the boat down.

After Wilma, I had 180 gals of fuel for my generator! All my neigbors were grateful I had fuel to sell (at cost). One neighbor had bought a brand new generator, but only a 2.5 gallon gas can...what was he thinking....??????

Re: Hurricane Season

^^^ Great idea. I almost always keep the boat's tanks full during season - and the new boat holds quite a bit and has a generator. If I cant find fuel for my generator at home, I'm heading to my boat!

Re: Hurricane Season

Great, now you've jinxed us!!!
After Wilma I dove in my dad's canal to try and find some of his eisenglass off the sea ray; found one piece. I think he's learned the lesson to make the effort to take it all down next time.
I really have no idea what I'll do when the time comes. I keep mine in a storage yard and the worst that Wilma did was knock a light pole over. Other than that the trailers shifted, but nothing touched.
I wonder what it would be like out in the bay, say around Haulover/Beer Can/FIU?

Re: Hurricane Season

I have some cool stories from hurricane "scares" down in the keys when I was younger... way to long to tell, maybe after a few beers at the next raft up!

After Wilma... I keep my boat on the side of the house and I always keep it full, I was able to keep the generator and my truck running

Now as long as natural gas keeps coming to the house, I will have power

Re: Hurricane Season

Do you want to trade for months of cold wet snow and ice?
