I'm stumbled onto this forum while doing a search under windlass on Google.

To make a long story short, we have a 1998 36' Silverton Express with a Horizon verticle windlass installed. Two seasons ago I had to replace the rope/chain combo on the boat as well as the plastic rope guide on the windless drum as this deteriated due to heavy use. Since then I have experienced nothing but issues with the rope bunching up and not flowing smoothly into the rope locker, or when it goes from the chain to rope, the transitionional rope portion wont feed into the windlass. Has anyone else experienced similar issues? Any recomendations? I am tempted to either purchase a new windlass or all chain as the windlass doesn't seem to have issues with the chain portion. I am trying to get some answers before I invest more money.

Welcome to the forum. Without being able to see what's going on, it sounds like the splice might be a bit big to make the turn and continue into the anchor locker. Try keeping some tension on the line (both when pulling up line and when you get to the splice). You may even want to let a little out, just a foot or so, get some tension, and then try to raise it again.
