Low profile speakers ?

I'm thinking about adding some speakers to the bottom side of our radar arch, and there is not a lot of depth to work with.

Can anyone recommend a "low-profile" speaker that would work in this application ?

I'm trying to avoid using ring spacers, and stuff like that.

Thanks

Re: Low profile speakers ?

Have you been able to determine how much depth you have to work with by removing the courtesy light fixture or something?

I haven't gotten that far with it yet - but it looks to be about 3in at most.

Re: Low profile speakers ?

Clarion makes a marine two-way, 6-1/2" diameter speaker that surface mounts and requires a mounting depth of 2-1/4" as well as a 7" diameter, two-way speaker that requires about 2-3/16".

Don't think you'll have a problem unless you are looking to flush mount them to the underside.

I do plan to flush mount them on the underside of the radar arch. If they fit in the allowable, depth - what problem do you forsee ?

The biggest problem I see is how are you going to get the speaker inside the arch? Flush mounting requires the speaker to be mounted from the back-side of mounting plane unlike surface mounting where you cut the hole, set the speaker flush on the mounting plane from the top-side, screw it down and cover it with the speaker grill.

Re: Low profile speakers ?

My lack of experience shows in my terminology...I must be planning to surface mount them.

Cut a hole, connect the wires, screw them into place and snap on a cover ring to hide the screw heads.

Thanks for all the feeback - I'm searching the internet currently, and doing some measeurements tomorrow.

If surface mount is the case, just check that you can get the wires up to where you want to mount the speakers and verify there isn't anything behind where you want to cut the holes.
