| | | poker run anyone? Is anyone interested in trying to organize some sort of poker run? A poker run for those of us that don't have a $250k or more boat. Just a reason to get out there and run our boats a little. Maybe a small entrance fee and prizes. A stop somewhere for lunch. I'm thinking either the east coast intercoastal, or tampa bay? I think it might be too risky to plan something in open water due to weather/ waves. No more than 100 miles or so.. I'm just kind of thinking out loud for now as I watch the guys with the big boats have so much fun. Does anyone else have any thoughts? | |

| | | Re: poker run anyone? I know I am considered the mouth of Central Florida Region nad probably expected to organize this but I can honestly say that I have never participated in a Poker Run on the water only on the motorcycle. So I would have no clue where to begin. But I am all up for participating, and yes, running my mouth through the whole thing |

| | | Re: poker run anyone? The st. johns is a good idea. I'm personally not too familiar with it but I guess this would be a good reason to do so. I've never participated in a poker run either, mostly cause no matter how hard I push on the throttle I can't keep up with a 39' fountain. I just got an email from BMC boats saying that there will be an event up in mt dora on march 29,30 that will include a family fun poker run. This will be a great opportunity to see how they organize it. |

If you want to participate in the "demo days" poker run you must pre-register at MIACF@att.net and it costs $10 which includes lunch. btw I am not at all affiliated with this event, I just got this e-mail, twice by two different dealers. I will be happy to forward if anyone wants it. oh and it's on sun, mar. 30

| | | Re: poker run anyone? We're not real familiar w/poker runs either, have only been on one by bike. Seems to me that speed doesn't necessarily have to be a factor, just going from point to point to draw cards? We'd need a place to start the run and a place to end the run, maybe even end the run somewhere at an overnight spot? Anyone else have suggestions? |

| | | Re: poker run anyone? Just a thought Dept: come up with 10 or so locations (5 north & 5 south of the Glen) along the river willing to participate in handing out cards (have to come up w/volunteers to take decks of cards to these locations the day before). The object is to go to any 4 of these locations & draw 1 card. When you draw a card, the bartender (or whoever hands out the cards) signs the card...that way you can't come up w/just any card. Then by a pre-set time (5:00 or so) you show up at the Glen (or where ever), draw the last card, turn in your hand & pay $5.00 or so per hand. We would suggest donating 50% to a charity...people tend to be more willing to participate when they feel some $$ are going to a good cause! This would be a great way for Raft-Up to advertise at these locations & there would also need to be prizes for the best hand! :)
We live near Palatka, we'll be happy to take decks of cards to "Corky Bells" and "Gator Landing" as soon as we come up with a date for the Run!
Thoughts? Volunteers? Comments!! |
